Try checking the mailing list archives. There has been much success in using STunnel to provide SSL services for auth_ldap. In fact, stunnel is included in the RHEL distribution. I've been using this scheme in production for over a year.

Subject: [Auth_ldap] SSL Support - help with SDKs

Hello,

I'm trying to port some apps from Solaris to RHEL, including auth_ldap
for apache 1.3.x

The problem I'm having is that I need SSL support, and can't get it
compiled with either OpenSSL (only supports TLS), or Netscape's (can't
get a 4.x SDK).

Long ago, Dave posted an answer back to a question I was asking at the
time, regarding literally the same. But basically, the only way to
support SSL is with Nescape's SDK.

Someone posted instructions to get SDK5 to compile, but it works only
under Solaris. I guess '-lsocket -lnsl' are Solaris only. In any
case, configure still fails...

Anyone with a solution to this ? Or someone knows where to get a copy
of 4.x netscape SDKs for linux ?

TIA...
