[Auth_ldap] Using Auth LDAP 1.6.1 to Auth via AD

I have some webservers running 1.3.37 that I need to authenticate via 
Active Directory.  I need to make sure that they are securely transferring 
the credentials so I need to use TLS or SSL.  I'm running debian 3.1 with 
openldap 2.x.  The FAQ indicates that auth ldap requires Netscape Ldap SDK 
for SSL Support.  Does 1.6.1 with OpenLdap SDK provide the ability to 
authenticate using TLS?  Or is it completely clear text?
