Yes, I've had other reports about the ldap cache leading to bad
performance with OpenLDAP 2.0.7, but I haven't had time to investigate
further. The workaround now is to turn the cache off (set the size to
-1). auth_ldap 1.5.x uses its own cache, so if your environment is such
that it would be negatively impacted by lack of ldap cache, then you
could consider using 1.5.x.
