[Auth_ldap] auth_ldap seems to hang randomly

     I am using Apache 1.3.14 with auth_ldap 1.4.0 on a Linux box to 
     authenticate with a Netscape LDAP server.
     
     Often, and randomly, when I connect to a protected page, the browser 
     just hangs after entering the password, apparently waiting for a reply 
     from the LDAP server (or not understanding the reply?). This happens 
     on my Linux server, but not on other servers in my corporation running 
     Solaris...
     
     Any ideas?
